Active Hang

Hang from an overhead bar with your shoulders actively pulled down and back so the lats and scapular stabilizers stay engaged. Maintain a stable torso and hold the position for time to improve upper-back strength and grip endurance.

How to do the Active Hang#

  1. Grasp a pull-up bar with an overhand, shoulder-width grip and lift your feet clear of the ground.
  2. Straighten your arms and draw your shoulder blades down and slightly together to create tension through the lats and upper back.
  3. Brace your core and keep your legs still to minimize swinging.
  4. Breathe steadily and maintain the engaged shoulder position for the target duration.
  5. When finished, control your shoulders back toward a neutral position and step or lower down from the bar.
