Stand on a resistance band and lift your arm out to the side against the band's tension, targeting the shoulder (lateral deltoid). Perform the movement with steady control through the lift and descent.
How to do the Lateral Raise (Band)#
- Stand with the band anchored under the middle of your foot and hold the handle at your side.
- Keep a small bend in the elbow and brace your core to maintain an upright torso.
- Raise the arm out to the side in a smooth arc until it reaches roughly shoulder height or slightly above.
- Lower the arm slowly back to the starting position while maintaining tension in the band.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, keeping movement controlled throughout.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Side delts
- Secondary: Traps, Front delts
Common mistakes#
- Using momentum or swinging the body to lift the arm.
- Shrugging the shoulders and engaging the traps.
- Bending the elbow excessively instead of keeping it slightly angled.
- Letting the wrist collapse or bend during the raise.
