Produce rapid alternating arm waves with an anchored rope to work the shoulder muscles and increase conditioning.
How to do the Battle Ropes#
- Secure the rope and grasp one end in each hand with a firm grip.
- Stand in an athletic stance with feet about hip-width and knees slightly bent.
- Keep your spine neutral and brace your core throughout the movement.
- Drive one hand upward as the opposite hand moves downward to create alternating waves at roughly shoulder height.
- Maintain a consistent, rhythmic tempo for the selected number of reps or duration.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Front delts, Side delts, Traps
- Secondary: Forearms, Biceps, Triceps, Abs, Upper back
Common mistakes#
- Generating waves with large torso or hip swings instead of the shoulders.
- Allowing the shoulders to round forward.
- Locking the elbows during the movement.
- Gripping the rope so tightly that forearm fatigue limits performance.
