Lie on a decline bench and move dumbbells in a wide arc to bring the arms together, working the chest (pectoralis major) through horizontal adduction.
How to do the Decline Chest Fly (Dumbbell)#
- Set a decline bench and lie back with your head lower than your hips; hold a dumbbell in each hand above your chest with palms facing each other.
- Maintain a slight bend in the elbows and keep your torso steady.
- Lower the weights out to your sides in a controlled arc until you feel a stretch across the chest, stopping before the arms go too far below chest level.
- Bring the dumbbells back together over your sternum by contracting the chest, following the same smooth arc.
- Repeat for the desired number of reps while keeping a controlled tempo and stable body position.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Chest
- Secondary: Front delts, Biceps
Common mistakes#
- Locking the elbows instead of keeping a soft bend.
- Lowering the weights too far and overstretching the chest.
- Using momentum or fast reps rather than controlled movement.
- Allowing the shoulders to shrug or roll forward during the set.
