Hold a handstand and alternately lift each hand to tap the opposite shoulder, emphasizing pressing through the shoulders to support the inverted position.
How to do the Handstand Shoulder Tap#
- Enter a controlled handstand with your arms locked and shoulders stacked over your wrists.
- Shift your weight slightly onto one arm so the other hand can lift off the ground.
- Lift the free hand and touch the opposite shoulder with a brief, controlled tap.
- Return the hand to the floor and transfer weight to the other arm, then repeat on the opposite side.
- Maintain steady breathing and avoid using momentum to swing the taps.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Front delts, Side delts, Triceps
- Secondary: Abs, Traps, Upper back, Obliques
Common mistakes#
- Failing to shift weight before lifting a hand, causing loss of balance.
- Letting the shoulders collapse instead of pressing up through them.
- Rushing the movement and using momentum rather than controlled taps
