Comparing StrengthLog vs Hevy vs Gript
StrengthLog comes from Styrkelabbet AB in Sweden and has been on the App Store since late 2018. It is a free-first gym log: unlimited workouts, routines, and custom exercises without paying, a coach-written library of more than 200 programs, and no ads. Hevy is the largest pure workout logger there is, also free to log in, with a social feed and apps on every platform. Gript is the third column because it is ours, and because it reads a StrengthLog export directly. Here is an honest look at all three, with facts taken from each app’s own help center and store listing, checked on 27 September 2026.
What sets StrengthLog vs Hevy vs Gript apart
StrengthLog is for lifters who want to log for free without hitting a wall. The free tier has no cap on routines or custom exercises, 500 or more exercises with video, a plate calculator, basic stats, PRs, goals and streaks, and monthly challenges. Premium unlocks the full program library, advanced stats and the muscle map, RPE and RIR logging, and sharing, at the highest price of the three: $16.90 a month or $109 a year. It is a Nordic app first, with 14,000 Swedish ratings against 3,600 in the US store.
Hevy is for anyone who wants free logging with a community around it. Logging, RPE, and the plate calculator are free, and the feed, gym leaderboards, and community routines are what the other two lack. Free accounts get 4 routines, 7 custom exercises, 3 months of charts, and weight and waist measurements. Pro is the cheapest here at $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 for life, with 26 built-in programs and Hevy Trainer inside them.
Gript is for people who care most about what the numbers say afterwards: 9 chart types per exercise plus 10 training-wide charts, 12 weeks of history free, free body measurements for every body part, and progression suggestions that work on any routine and show their reason. It reads a StrengthLog CSV directly with RPE intact. It has no web app, social layer, or Wear OS, and free accounts get 3 routines.
How StrengthLog stands out
If you want the most generous free tier and a library of coach-written programs, StrengthLog provides:
- Unlimited free routines and custom exercises. No cap on workouts, routines, or custom exercises on the free tier, and no ads. Hevy stops at 4 routines and 7 custom exercises; Gript at 3 routines and 10 custom exercises.
- A 200+ program library. Coach-written programs for strength, hypertrophy, and powerlifting, plus a new Program Builder in v9.0. Most of the library is Premium. Hevy has 26 programs; Gript has 6.
- A free plate calculator with gym profiles. Bars, plates, and per-exercise barbells saved per gym, on the free tier. Hevy’s is free too; Gript’s is Pro.
- Strength Levels and Premium stats. Percentile rankings on 200 exercises since v8.0 and PR flags on the set, free. Premium adds advanced stats, the muscle map, %1RM, RPE and RIR logging, and quick stats per set.
- Every platform, at the highest price. iPhone, iPad, an Apple Watch companion that finishes saving on the phone, Android, Wear OS with Tiles, and a web app at app.strengthlog.com. Premium is $16.90 a month, $37.90 for 3 months, or $109 a year after a 14-day trial; no lifetime plan.
How Hevy stands out
If you want to log for free and see what friends are lifting, Hevy provides:
- Free logging with RPE. Warm-up, drop, and failure sets, RPE on a 6 to 10 scale, supersets, a Live Activity rest timer, and widgets, all free. StrengthLog puts RPE behind Premium.
- The biggest community. A feed with likes and comments, gym leaderboards, and shared routines, behind 95,000 US ratings at 4.9. StrengthLog shares by link on Premium; Gript shares a link only.
- The cheapest Pro, with a lifetime plan. $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 once, with no trial. Pro lifts the 4-routine cap, opens all-time charts, and adds Hevy Trainer inside its 26 programs.
- Every platform, but only one import. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, Wear OS, and a web logger at hevy.com. The import reads Strong CSV files only, so a StrengthLog export stays out.
How Gript stands out
If you want the charts and your StrengthLog history read as it is, Gript provides:
- Direct import of the StrengthLog CSV. Export Your Data in StrengthLog, Import Workouts in Gript. Sets, reps, weights, timed sets, and RPE come across; workout comments and cardio distance are not in the file. See import from StrengthLog.
- 19 chart templates. Nine per exercise, including working weight range and a weight-versus-reps scatter, plus a body map and balance radar. 12 weeks free; longer ranges are Pro. See chart types.
- Progression on any routine. RPE-aware double progression on any routine, with the reason shown; the first 5 suggestions are free. StrengthLog’s Train Again scales the last workout by a percentage; Hevy Trainer works inside Hevy programs. See progression suggestions.
- RPE or RIR free, in one tap. Either scale on the workout keyboard on every tier, plus a set stopwatch for timed work and free body measurements with goals.
- No web, social, or Wear OS. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android since September 2026. Free accounts get 3 routines; Pro is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year with a free trial, no lifetime plan.

Final verdict: which one should you choose?
- Choose StrengthLog if
StrengthLogyou want the most generous free tier here, unlimited routines and custom exercises, and a coach-written program library, and you can wait on RPE until you pay.
- Choose Hevy if
Hevyyou want a feed and leaderboards, RPE without paying, the cheapest Pro including a lifetime plan, and every platform.
- Choose Gript if
Griptyou want the widest set of charts and per-set suggestions with reasons, and a StrengthLog CSV read directly rather than retyped.
StrengthLog gives away more of the app and charges more for the rest; Hevy gives away less and charges the least. Gript is the third option if the charts are the point and you want your StrengthLog history to come along. If you are leaving Hevy instead, the switch guide covers what carries over.

Download Gript free and bring your history with you. If it does not earn its place, your data exports in one tap.
I have tried pretty much every workout tracker out there — Hevy, Strong and many others — and Gript has quickly become my favorite. The UI and overall design are easily the best on the market.
