Comparing Liftoff vs Hevy vs Gript

Liftoff is the gamified workout app from Liftoff Labs Inc., formerly GymBros, not the energy drink, the drone simulator, or the ad platform that share the name. It scores every lift on a 1 to 1000 rating, keeps a streak, and ranks friends on a leaderboard, and holds a 4.8 on the US App Store from 97,000 ratings. Hevy is the largest plain logger, free and on every platform. Gript is the third column because it is ours, and because it reads the same training data without the game. Here is an honest look at all three, with facts taken from each app’s own site, FAQ, and store listing.

What sets Liftoff vs Hevy vs Gript apart

Liftoff is for people who want the gym to feel like a ranked game. Each set feeds an estimated 1RM, adjusted for body weight and sex, that becomes a rating and a rank. Streaks break after three days without a post and seasons reset every four months. Logging, ranks on 500 or more of its roughly 600 exercises, streaks, and leaderboards are free; Pro adds AI features and long-timeframe charts.

Hevy is for anyone who wants to log without paying and see what friends are lifting: unlimited free logging, a social feed, 26 built-in programs, and apps on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, Wear OS, and the web. There are no ranks and nothing breaks if you skip a week. Free accounts get 4 routines, 7 custom exercises, and 3 months of charts.

Gript reads the same data the other way round. A rank compresses estimated 1RM and body weight into one number that says where you stand; a chart shows whether the lift is moving. Gript draws 19 charts, collects PRs on a Personal Records screen, and suggests the next weight with the reason on any routine. It imports from 19 apps, though not Liftoff, and has no social layer or web app.

How Liftoff stands out

If you want a number that says where you stand and a reason to show up, Liftoff provides:

  • Ranks on 500+ exercises, free. A 1 to 1000 strength rating from estimated 1RM, adjusted for body weight and sex, and nine ranks from Wood through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Champion, and Titan to Olympian, with 0 to 100 LP inside each. Rank and streak widgets sit on the home screen.
  • Streaks with a price on the restore. A streak breaks after three days without a post; rest days count. Broken streaks come back through Super Restore (up to 30 days), Mega Restore (up to 60), or Streak Revive, bought with eggs, the in-app currency. That is the honest cost of the game.
  • Seasons and leaderboards. Seasons reset on 1 January, 1 May, and 1 September, with leaderboards by friends, country, and world. Hevy has gym leaderboards without seasons; Gript has neither.
  • Pro for the AI, at a spread of prices. Calorie Lens food scanning, barcode scanning, an AI workout and multi-week plan generator, deeper analytics, and long-timeframe charts. The App Store lists $3.99, $12.99, and $14.99 a month and $39.99 and $79.99 a year without labelling the plans, an optional trial, and no lifetime.
  • Apple Watch since September 2026, no web. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch on watchOS 10 or later, and Android; no Wear OS, and liftoffrank.com is a download page. Apple Health, Strava, 17 body measurements, and CSV import from Strong and Hevy. No export is documented.

How Hevy stands out

If you want to log for free and see what friends are lifting, Hevy provides:

  • Unlimited free logging. Warm-up, drop, and failure sets, RPE, supersets, a Live Activity rest timer, widgets, and a plate calculator. Free accounts get 4 routines and 7 custom exercises.
  • A social layer without a scoreboard. A feed with likes and comments, gym leaderboards, and community routines. No streak to lose and no season to reset.
  • 26 built-in programs. Hevy Trainer (Pro) adjusts weights inside those programs. Liftoff sells plans for eggs and generates them with Pro; Gript ships 6.
  • Every platform at the lowest price. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, Wear OS, and a web logger at hevy.com. $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 for life, no trial. Three months of charts free; CSV export is Pro, and it imports Strong CSV only.

How Gript stands out

If you want the non-gamified read on the same sets, Gript provides:

  • PR detection and a Personal Records screen. New records highlighted on the completion screen, in history, and on share cards, with a history chart per record. See personal records.
  • 19 chart templates. Nine per exercise, including estimated 1RM, working weight range, and a weight-versus-reps scatter, plus 10 training-wide charts. 12 weeks free; longer ranges are Pro. See chart types.
  • Progression suggestions with reasons. The next weight or rep target on any routine you built, with the reason shown; the first 5 are free. See progression suggestions.
  • Import from 19 apps, but not Liftoff. Hevy and Strong CSV import directly with an exercise matching step, and AI import reads a spreadsheet or screenshot. Liftoff has no documented export, so history cannot be moved out of Liftoff today. Export from Gript is free.
  • No ranks, streaks, feed, or web app. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android, no Wear OS or widgets. Body measurements are free. Pro is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year with a free trial and no lifetime plan.

Common questions

Is Liftoff free?

Yes. Core logging, ranks on 500 or more exercises, streaks, and leaderboards are free. Pro adds Calorie Lens food scanning, barcode scanning, the AI workout and plan generator, deeper analytics, and long-timeframe charts. Hevy and Gript also log for free.

How much is Liftoff Pro?

The US App Store lists five Pro prices: $3.99, $12.99, and $14.99 a month and $39.99 and $79.99 a year, without saying which plan each belongs to, plus an optional trial of unpublished length and no lifetime option. Hevy Pro is $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 for life; Gript Pro is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

Can I export my Liftoff workouts?

Not that we can find. Liftoff documents no CSV or file export, so your history stays inside the app for now. Import runs the other way: Liftoff reads Strong and Hevy CSV files from Settings. Gript reads Hevy exports directly; see import from Hevy.

Final verdict: which one should you choose?

  • Choose Liftoff ifLiftoff

you want a rank to climb, a streak to protect, and a leaderboard of friends, and you accept that restores cost eggs.

  • Choose Hevy ifHevy

you want free logging, a social feed, Wear OS or the web, and the lowest price, including a lifetime plan.

  • Choose Gript ifGript

you want to know whether the lift is moving rather than where it ranks: PR detection, 19 charts, and suggestions on your own routine.

Liftoff and Hevy both wrap a log in a community, one as a ranked game and one as a feed; Gript swaps the game for charts and PRs. Hevy exports on Pro and Gript exports free; Liftoff documents no export, so try it knowing that. If you are moving from Hevy, the switch guide covers what carries over.

I have tried pretty much every workout tracker out there — Hevy, Strong and many others — and Gript has quickly become my favorite. The UI and overall design are easily the best on the market.
