Perform a machine-assisted abdominal flexion from a kneeling position to work the abdominal muscles and core. The movement curls the torso/hips upward using the machine's leverage.
How to do the Ab Coaster (Machine)#
- Set the machine to a comfortable starting position and kneel on the carriage with your hands on the handles or pads.
- Begin with your torso in the extended position and your knees behind you on the pad.
- Drive your knees/chest upward by contracting your abdominal muscles, moving the carriage forward.
- Hold briefly at the top for a controlled peak contraction.
- Slowly lower the carriage back to the starting position under control.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Abs (Rectus Abdominis)
- Secondary: Hip flexors (Iliopsoas (Hip Flexors)), Obliques (External & Internal Obliques)
Common mistakes#
- Using momentum or swinging instead of controlled abdominal contraction.
- Pulling with the arms or shoulders rather than using the core.
- Letting the lower back arch excessively at the bottom of the movement.
- Rushing repetitions and cutting the range of motion short.
