Explode laterally onto a sturdy box and land softly, using the legs—primarily the quadriceps—to generate and absorb force. Repeat by stepping down and alternating sides each rep.
How to do the Lateral Box Jump#
- Stand beside a stable box with feet hip-width and knees slightly bent, eyes forward.
- Bend your hips and knees, swing your arms, and push off to jump sideways onto the box.
- Land lightly on both feet with hips and knees softly bent and your core engaged.
- Step or controlled-hop down to the original side, reset, and perform the next rep, alternating sides each time.
Muscles worked#
Common mistakes#
- Landing with locked or nearly straight knees instead of absorbing with a bend.
- Twisting the torso or allowing the hips to collapse on landing.
- Relying on one foot to land instead of absorbing with both feet together.
- Stepping down haphazardly or dropping off the box instead of a controlled descent.
