Lie on your side and raise the top leg out to the side in a controlled motion, primarily working the glute muscles.
How to do the Lateral Leg Raises#
- Lie on your side with legs straight and stacked, supporting your head with your lower arm.
- Keep your hips aligned and your torso still throughout the movement.
- Lift the top leg upward in a controlled arc until you feel the glute engage, then pause briefly.
- Lower the leg slowly back to the start position under control.
- Complete the prescribed repetitions, then switch sides.
Muscles worked#
Common mistakes#
- Allowing the hips to roll backward or forward during the lift.
- Using momentum or swinging the leg instead of controlled movement.
- Bending the lifted knee excessively.
- Lifting so high that the lower back arches.
