A single-leg squat variation that lowers your body on one leg while the other leg extends behind, primarily working the thigh muscles.
How to do the Skater Squat#
- Stand tall on one foot with the other leg slightly extended behind you for balance.
- Hinge at the hips and bend the standing knee to lower your hips toward the floor, keeping weight through the heel.
- Allow the non-working leg to extend back as you descend while keeping your torso upright.
- Pause briefly near the bottom without collapsing forward, then press through the heel to return to standing.
- Complete the desired reps, then switch sides.
Muscles worked#
Common mistakes#
- Knee collapsing inward.
- Using the rear leg to push up instead of the working leg.
- Leaning the torso forward excessively.
- Shifting weight onto the toes rather than the heel.
