Press the sled platform by driving your ankles into plantarflexion to load the calf muscles. The movement isolates the calves through concentrated ankle extension.
How to do the Calf Press (Machine)#
- Sit on the sled machine and place the balls of your feet on the platform with your heels hanging free and feet about hip-width apart.
- Keep your knees soft (not fully locked) and maintain an upright posture against the seat.
- Push the platform by pressing through the balls of your feet, extending your ankles to raise the load.
- Lower the platform slowly and under control until you feel a stretch in the calves.
- Repeat for the desired reps while avoiding rapid bouncing between reps.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Calves
Common mistakes#
- Bouncing the weight instead of controlling the descent.
- Pushing primarily with the toes rather than the whole forefoot.
- Locking the knees during the press.
- Allowing the heels to press too hard into the platform instead of letting them drop for stretch.
