An explosive bodyweight push-up where you push off the floor and clap hands midair, primarily working the chest.
How to do the Push Up (Clap)#
- Start in a high plank with hands under your shoulders and your body in a straight line.
- Lower your chest toward the floor with your elbows angled slightly back.
- Explosively press through your palms to drive your hands off the ground.
- Quickly clap your hands together while keeping your body aligned in midair.
- Land softly on your palms, absorb the impact with bent elbows, and reset for the next rep.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Chest
- Secondary: Triceps, Front delts, Abs
Common mistakes#
- Letting the hips sag or pike and breaking the straight body line.
- Flaring the elbows out too wide instead of keeping them angled.
- Not generating enough explosive force to fully leave the ground.
- Landing stiffly with locked elbows instead of absorbing the impact.
