Stand and bend one knee to bring the heel toward the buttock, performing knee flexion that primarily trains the hamstrings of the back thigh.
How to do the Standing Leg Curls#
- Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and shift your weight onto the supporting leg.
- Keep your torso upright and brace your core throughout the movement.
- Bend the working knee to lift the heel toward your glutes, keeping the thigh stationary.
- Hold the top position briefly, then lower the lower leg under control until near full extension.
- Complete the desired repetitions, then switch legs and repeat.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Hamstrings
- Secondary: Calves
Common mistakes#
- Swinging the lower leg instead of using controlled movement.
- Allowing the hips to rotate or drop during the curl.
- Pulling the thigh forward rather than isolating knee flexion.
- Dropping the foot quickly on the lowering phase instead of controlling it.
