Extend one leg backward against the machine platform to drive hip extension and load the glute muscles. Perform controlled repetitions on each side while the torso remains supported on the pad.
How to do the Glute Kickback (Machine)#
- Adjust the chest pad so your torso rests comfortably and grip the handles for stability.
- Place one foot on the platform with the knee bent and keep your chest pressed to the pad.
- Contract the working glute to push the platform backward until the hip is nearly straight, pausing briefly at the top.
- Return the platform slowly to the starting position under control.
- Finish the set on one leg, then switch sides and repeat.
Muscles worked#
- Primary: Glutes
- Secondary: Hamstrings
Common mistakes#
- Driving with the lower back instead of engaging the glute.
- Letting the hips rotate or tilt during the movement.
- Using momentum to swing the leg rather than moving deliberately.
- Failing to reach near-full hip extension before returning.
