Stand facing a high cable and use an underhand (palms-up) grip to extend your elbows; the movement primarily works the triceps through elbow extension.
How to do the Reverse Grip Triceps Pushdown (Cable)#
- Stand facing the machine with feet about hip-width apart and grasp the cable handle with an underhand (palms-up) grip.
- Tuck your elbows close to your sides and start with your forearms angled upward.
- Drive your hands downward by straightening your elbows until your arms are fully extended, keeping your wrists neutral.
- Pause briefly at full extension, then slowly allow the cable to return as you bend your elbows under control to the starting position.
- Keep your torso upright and avoid pushing with your shoulders or leaning backward to complete the rep.
Muscles worked#
Common mistakes#
- letting the elbows drift forward or flare away from the sides.
- Using torso lean or momentum instead of arm extension to move the weight.
- Bending or flexing the wrists so the load shifts off the triceps.
- Failing to fully extend the elbows or control the eccentric return.
