Perform an overhead cable curl by bending the elbow to lift the handle, primarily working the biceps. Keep your torso stable and let the motion come only from the elbow joint.
How to do the Overhead Curl (Cable)#
- Set the cable pulley high and grasp the handle with an underhand grip so your arms start extended overhead and the cable is taut.
- Stand with feet hip-width apart and brace your core to maintain an upright posture.
- Keep your upper arms fixed and curl the handle by flexing only at the elbows, bringing the handle toward your head.
- Hold the peak contraction briefly while squeezing the biceps.
- Lower the handle slowly and with control back to the starting position, maintaining tension on the cable.
Muscles worked#
Common mistakes#
- Using shoulder or torso movement to help lift the weight.
- Allowing the elbows to move forward or drift away from a fixed position.
- Relying on momentum or swinging the body.
- Dropping the weight quickly on the way down.
